After many years as a woodworker I would like to share some of the tips and techniques I have learned. Woodworking and woodturning are pursuits where new things can always be learned. I enjoy sharing with others and UA-cam gives me the opportunity to do so.

One of my favorite examples of basket illusion on the Internet. Thanks, Gord.
My pleasure. Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your support, Ken!
Does it need a ground wire?
I need to know asap
No! My apologies!! Yes, it does!!!! I was looking at the wrong video!

Forgot to say that your video is great - I'm a new to your work and think it will help me in my designs. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Regarding end grain gluing, I've had some luck with first spreading glue then rubbing the joint tight, then adding glue and clamping the joint loosely. When you rub the joint the glue is forced into the grain leaving very little in the joint. Then adding glue and clamping more loosely keeps more in the joint that also bonds with the glue that is forced into the grain. Using this method requires a very good look at the dry fit and it takes a little longer, but I've had great results Hope this helps with end grain gluing!
Thanks for the tip, Dave. I'm always happy to learn from others!
Today I scored some laurel leaf willow from the tree guys in the park. It is quite wet and I usually will twice turn the bowl. Have not used this wood before so was glad to see how you dealt with issues. I will try to be prepared.
I hope that video will be helpful, Don. Thanks for watching.
what network do you need to connect? Mine won't scan the QR code for either 2.4 or 5gHz networks. I've tried so many times and I'm about to send it back because it won't connect. any insight?
I'm not sure which network I'm using. I have both as well and had no problem connecting. You might want to contact Mintion support to find out what to do. Sorry I'm not more help!! ......Gord
Gord, I hope you are still producing. This looks like a crazy amount of work. I hope the recipients of your bowls appreciate just how much effort you put into your work. Thanks for sharing! My hope is to retire doing exactly this, so thank you so much!
Thank you for the kind words, Dana. I haven't been doing any turning for more than a year as I'm taking chemotherapy treatment for cancer and that really kills my energy level. I hope to get back to the lathe before too long! Thanks for watching! .....Gord
Should list the saw it fits. As my table saw has too small of an insert for this to work. I was able to figure out how to adapt the design and it does work.
I'm happy that you got it working, Dennis!
Hi mate those machines are out of my league. I really hopped across to say hello and that everything is going well. I finished my cancer treatment and so far so good .Sincerely hope you are getting stronger mate .Prayers and best wishes Bram
I’m so glad you are doing well, Bram. I’m doing the best I can but still have a ways to go. Thank you so much for the kind words, my friend. Take care of yourself! …..Gord
Almost 10 years since the last comment and I found the last two episodes wonderfully educating. I'm working my way through the book on how Ray Allen did segmented vessels (and obviously you did too). Thanks for making this series.
I'm happy that you are enjoying the series, Ed. Yes, it's a long time since it was published. Thanks for watching!
Good video, Gord. Appreciate it.
Glad you enjoyed it, Ken!
@@GordonRock1 I'm looking to turn something a little different and this might be fun. I'm not sure I have the patience to do one. Maybe a small plate?
Sounds like a good place to start, Ken. Have fun with it!!
Turn the insert around to prevent thin pieces catching on the kerf.
Thank you for the tip!!
so you need the rotary roller if something is not flat.
Exactly!!
Try a dry PTFE spray !
Thank you for the tip!!
hope you are healthy and will see you soon. be well please
Thank you, Alfredo! Much appreciated, my friend.
what kind of blade do i use
I don’t know. I use a Freud Fusion blade.
why are my miters so thin on edge
Sorry, I would need a lot more information to even begin to guess.
Thanks so much for this. I was trying to find out if I needed to remove the bottom bed rails before I lowered it so they wouldn't hit the laser. I didn't even know it had an idle mode! Wishing you the best with your health and your channel!
I'm happy that it helped, Travis. Thank you for the well wishes!
You look great, my friend!!
Aw shucks! That's one of the things you and I have in common, Tom. Born Pretty!! 😆🤣😆🤣
@@GordonRock1 ok, I have to agree.LOL
thanks it helped me
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching!
Sand it off 😎
That was more than a year ago. It will stay as it is now!!
i use denatured alcohol to remove the glue, just soak some on let set a minute soak again and wait then start to peel the glue off. Is there some reason I should not use denatured alcohol? Just wondering.
No reason I know of. If it works for you, it must be the right thing to do. Thank you for the tip. I may have to give that a try someday!
thanks for the Carter upgrade video. I plan on doing that very soon and I found the comment on the fence you use. I will check and see if they still have it these 5 years past the video date.
I hope the video will be some help to you, Dave. Good luck on finding that fence. I wish I could remember who made it or even where I found it.
In the beginning..... Now how do I do this with a laser ?
I have no idea how to do this with a laser. Putting the numbers and letters on the segments should be very doable but cutting the segments would be difficult unless they were fairly thin. I haven't tried it but it might be interesting to try. I look forward to seeing your attempt! 😃😃😃 Take care, .....Gord
Hello Gord, Great to find your channel and to learn more about what your making. Thanks JR
Thanks for watching! I hope you will enjoy my content. .....Gord
Somehow I was unsubscribe Gord. Keep fighting the fight my friend. Take care Mark
I appreciate the kind words, Mark. Thanks for watching! All the best, …..Gord
Thank you so much! Looked in the manual and all over till I found your video
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
Laser work is not my interest, but I'm so relieved to see you back, Gord. It's good that you have the drive and energy so soon to do something. You are on the way back up! Jolly good show! Bernard.
Thank you so much, Bernard. I appreciate the kind words, my friend. Stay well!! …..Gord
Thanks Gord for the video. It is good to see you back
Thank you kindly, Bill. I will try to do more videos when I have the strength to do them. Thanks for watching! …..Gord
I watched this video a few days ago and ,as you told of your health problems it sort of hit home with me. I also am fighting colorectal cancer; when found I was in stage 4 and it had already moved into my liver. So I know what your going through. It is not pretty or easy. My prayers and hopes will be with you. I am now clear of cancer in my colon, but in my liver is not doing well. More treatments are coming . hope they find something that works for you and me. GOD be with us both. Tennessee Woodbees Turner
Randy, I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through much the same thing that I am. It’s not a lot of fun! I did not realize that this chemotherapy could take so long. You will be in my thoughts, my friend. Take care of yourself! …..Gord
Could it work on my Ender 3 v3 se
Tobias, as far as I know it will work. You might want to send an email to the Creality support team to confirm this.
@@GordonRock1 thank you do you know an STL file for a bracket
I don't know of one hand but you might find one on thingivers.com or design one on tinkercad.com. I hope you find one!
@@GordonRock1 thank you for the advice
I found one on printables
Top quality review Gord, keep healthy mate!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Thank you so much, Alan! I’m doing my best, buddy. Thank you for the kind words! 😃😃😃😃
Great to see you back in the shop 👍
Sure is great to be back, Greg. 👍 I hope to be back more frequently! Thanks for watching, my friend.
Great to see a new video. Hope everything is going well.
Thank you so much, James! Much appreciated, my friend.
Take care and stay positive my friend. I have gone through the hair loss and I treat it as never needing money again on haircuts, that I can now spend on new toys😁😁😁😁😁😁 Take care and I hope you and your better half are staying and remaining well Cheers Harold
Thanks for sharing this, Harold. I’m not too concerned about the hair loss. I always believed that I had a 50/50 chance of losing it and it sure took longer than most men. Gayle doesn’t mind and that’s the main thing! 🤔🤔🤔 Stay well, my friend, …..Gord
Hi Gord, I like your new head gear and am sure you will be back to your old self soon. That is a very impressive cover and that new fan certainly looks the part. Take care my friend. Cheers, Huw
Hello Huw. I’m glad you didn’t mind me showing off my new hairdo! LOL! Yes, I really like the laser enclosure and the fan sure moves a lot of air. Thanks for watching. 😎😎😎 All the best, …..Gord
Hi Gord, Great to see you in the shop doing videos again, that enclosure is excellent, thanks for sharing, Neil.
Thank you very much, Neil! I really like this enclosure a lot. It will certainly clear the smoke out of my shop, rather than have it floating all over the place. Thanks for watching, my friend.
Great to see and hear you back in the shop. Stay safe Gord. Geoff
Thanks, you too, Geoff! It’s great to be in the shop even though I am not getting much done. 😃 Stay well, …..Gord
It all looks good, Gord, and so do you. It's great to see you again. Do you have an opening in that enclosure to let air in? Air has to come in so some could go out (that's the engineer in me talking). BTW - I want that logo. Bill
Yes, it’s not airtight, Bill. Lots of air can get in but it’s all going out because of the negative pressure created by the inline fan. Send me your address to my email and I will send you the logo. gjrock@telus.net What size do you want? Take care, …..Gord
Great to see you doing a video again. Keep your positive attitude, it inspires the rest of us and is extremely beneficial to your recovery. Looking forward to seeing your next video.
Thank you, Dan. I will be happy when I get my energy level back up and getting some more strength. I’m not giving up yet! I just wish I could stand up the leaves and do some turning. That’s my passion and I really miss it. But I’m glad I have these laser machines to work with. I can do quite a bit sitting down so that helps. I’ll be back!
The tent is a great idea Gord. ❤. So nice to see you in the shop. My doc tells me my ice cream levels are dangerously low
Mine too! We had better make a break for dairy queen one day soon! Wouldn’t want to fade away from lack of the Peanut Buster Parfait!! glad you liked the enclosure.
Gord it’s good to see you back. Hope and pray all is going well. Scott
Thank you, Scott. One day at a time just trying to regain my strength and energy. I will be back!
The enclosure looked great Gord. The engravings looked great as well. You really got everything set up to work the magic of making that smoke disappear. You may have found a new job. Magic by Gord...by golly. But it was even better seeing you out in the shop. Maybe even when you do not need the dew rag you might wear it to keep your the face shield from messing up your hair which will be growing back. Take care buddy! Gary
I’m happy that I bought that enclosure as it will be important in the future. I plan to get use out of the open frame lasers as well as the Class 1 lasers. They are fun to work with. Yes, the dew rag is a great fashion item as well. 😁😎😎😁 Stay well, Gary, …..Gord
I am very pleased to see you in the shop today. I was just about to email you to find out if you were OK. You appear to be getting through the chemo well enough. Hair loss is no big deal. It will come back. Take care of yourself my friend. Thank you for sharing.🙂🙂
Thanks for thinking of me, Glen! I really appreciate you, my friend!! I have never worried about my hair. I always believed that I had a 50/50 chance of losing it so I’m amazed that I kept it all the way to the end of my twenties!! 🤣😂🤣😂 All the best to you, …..Gord
Good to see you in your shop doing something and not getting bored with everything! Good looking unit for taking away the smoke! Thanks! Cheers Al
Good to hear from you, Al. I hope everything is going well with you. Yes, it is a good unit. That larger in-line fan makes a huge difference! Thanks for watching, Al. Take care, …..Gord
Hey Gord, glad to see you…keep on keeping on!
Thanks, Tim, will do! 😁👍 Take care, …..Gord
Very nice job, Gord! That enclosure looks like just the ticket for these open frame engravers, especially with the camera addition. I imagine that 6" inline fan sucks just the way it should! LOL! So good to see you in the shop. Love the dorag! Keep on doing whatever you can until you get back to turning on a regular basis. You have a lot of folks out here thinking positive thoughts and praying for you. You will get through this like it never even happened! Take good care, my friend! Phil
This enclosure is very well built. I like it a lot. The only thing I don't like is that my shop is too small to leave it assembled when I'm not using it. Being as lazy as I am disassembling and reassembling it could get to be a real drag!😢😢 Thanks again for your well wishes, my friend. I really appreciate it! Take care, .....Gord
Hey Gord...GREAT to see you😊...don't worry...hair doesn't make the man...stay safe...press on 😎Joe
LOL! I’m not particularly bothered by the hair loss. I appreciate your kind words, my friend. Thanks for watching! Take care, …..Gord
Glad to see you back Gord, nice to see the reviews on new things available for us.
Thank you kindly, Rick. I’m glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!
Very nice setup! Great to see you back Gord! Still in our thoughts. Take care, Dave
Thank you so much, Dave. Much appreciated, my friend.
